Abstract

This study aims to understand how the Qur'an describes the relationship between air and earth through a scientific interpretation approach. The focus of the study is on two verses, namely QS. Al-Mursalat 25–26 and QS. Al-A'raf 57, using Tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka as the main reference and supporting scientific data. This study uses a qualitative method with a scientific interpretation approach combined with thematic analysis (tafsir maudhu‘i). The findings show that these two verses not only talk about the signs of Allah's power, but also describe natural mechanisms that are in harmony with the process of carbon exchange between the air and the soil. QS. Al-Mursalat 25–26 shows the function of the earth as a place where life takes place as well as a place where decomposition occurs after death. Meanwhile, QS. Al-A'raf 57 describes the role of wind and rain in reviving the soil, which is in line with the natural process that allows plants to grow and absorb carbon. The main contribution of this research lies in its attempt to connect the interpretation of the Qur'an with observable environmental processes, not only through moral messages, but through real natural phenomena. This research emphasizes that maintaining the balance of nature, including air quality, is part of humanity's responsibility as stewards of the earth.
