Transmisi Nilai Pendidikan Karakter dalam Ritual Adat Seblang Bakungan: Perspektif Etnopedagogi Budaya Osing

Abstract

The Seblang Bakungan ritual is a sacred tradition of the Osing community in Banyuwangi that functions not only as a medium of spirituality and cultural preservation but also as a conduit for transmitting character education values. Amid rapid modernization and a growing identity crisis, it is essential to explore how these values are passed down through the ritual's historical background, procedural stages, and symbolic elements. This study aims to identify and analyze character education values embedded in the Seblang Bakungan ritual from an ethnopedagogical perspective. Using a qualitative descriptive method and an ethnopedagogical approach, data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with cultural figures and ritual participants, and literature review. The findings reveal that the Seblang Bakungan ritual conveys core values such as spirituality, social responsibility, ancestral reverence, perseverance, and communal solidarity, which are reflected in its historical narrative, ceremonial process, and symbolic attributes. These results affirm that Seblang serves as a culturally grounded educational model that remains highly relevant for strengthening youth character and cultural identity in the era of globalization. This study contributes to the development of ethnopedagogy and reinforces the role of local wisdom in contemporary character education practices.
