Abstract

Family-owned micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) play a significant role in regional economies; however, human resource management within these entities often faces the challenge of balancing familial relationships with the demands of professional work. This study aims to explore how family-owned MSMEs in South Kalimantan manage conflicts between familial and professional roles within their organizational activities—specifically regarding task allocation, decision-making, fairness in treatment, and conflict resolution. The research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing a comparative case study design across several family-owned MSMEs in Banjarmasin and Banjarbaru. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with business owners, family members involved in operations, and non-family employees, supplemented by observations and documentation. This study seeks to uncover the tensions that arise between family interests and organizational requirements, as well as the strategies employed to maintain trust, fairness, and operational effectiveness.
