The Altar of the Creator: Religious Syncretism of Hinduism and Buddhism in North Jakarta
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to examine the influence of Hindu-Buddhist teachings in the Penjaringan District, North Jakarta. This qualitative research analyzes literature on Hinduism and Buddhism, specifically regarding Phra Phrom as a syncretism between Hinduism and Buddhism from Thailand. The analysis will be verified by observations of several places of worship for the god Brahma in the Pluit and Kamal Muara. Verification will also be carried out through interviews with several Hindu and Buddhist devotees. This study found various Phra Phrom statues in the North Jakarta area indicating a syncretism of Hinduism and Buddhism in the West Coast of Jakarta. The results of this study enrich the social sciences.
