Ilmu Balagah Sebagai Unsur Ilmu Tafsir

Abstract

This article discusses *balaghah* (Arabic rhetoric), a branch of Arabic linguistics that plays a crucial role in grasping the beauty, precision, and depth of meaning within Quranic verses. Mastery of this discipline is integral to the study of *tafsir* (exegesis), as it enables the exegete to comprehend the intended meaning of verses in light of their linguistic context and communicative purpose. This study aims to elucidate the nature of *balaghah*, its position within the field of *tafsir*, and its various manifestations within the Quran. A library research method was employed, utilizing a descriptive-analytical approach based on an examination of classical and contemporary literature concerning *balaghah* and *tafsir*. The findings indicate that *balaghah* comprises three primary branches—*‘ilm al-ma‘ani*, *‘ilm al-bayan*, and *‘ilm al-badi‘*—each serving to clarify the appropriateness of linguistic structure, rhetorical meaning, and the aesthetic quality of Quranic expression. These three branches complement one another in revealing the divine message comprehensively, thereby minimizing the risk of misinterpretation. The study implies that mastering *balaghah* is a fundamental competency for Quranic exegetes, as it enhances precision in understanding both the textual and contextual meanings of verses while ensuring the quality of interpretation remains scholarly, objective, and aligned with the rules of the Arabic language.
