Moderasi Beragama dalam Relasi Umat Islam dan Katolik di Kota Madiun
Main Article Content
Abstract
Indonesia, with its diverse ethnicities, cultures, and religions, requires mutual respect, making religious moderation crucial to fostering harmony. The purpose of this study was to determine how religious moderation and the relationship between Muslims and Catholics are affected. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study conducted in the area surrounding the Saint Cornelius Parish Church in Madiun City. Data collection was conducted through field observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that religious moderation in Madiun City is manifested through an attitude of tolerance (tasāmuh), respect for Catholic religious traditions, rejection of violence, commitment to nationalism, and an orientation toward the common good. Muslims, as the majority group, play an active role in creating harmonious social relations, including through acceptance of interfaith social activities, involvement in securing Catholic religious celebrations, and interfaith humanitarian cooperation in disaster management and environmental issues. The relationship between Muslims and Catholics in Madiun City demonstrates that a just, balanced, and mutually beneficial religious attitude can serve as the foundation for a harmonious, civilized multireligious society.
