Perkembangan Tafsir Maqashidi Di Indonesia

Abstract

The development of maqāshiidī exegesis in Indonesia has gained increasing academic attention as contemporary scholars seek interpretive approaches capable of bridging the gap between textual fidelity and modern socio-ethical realities. This study examines the historical trajectory, conceptual foundations, and methodological applications of maqāṣid-based Qur’anic interpretation within the Indonesian scholarly landscape. The purpose of this research is to map key ideas, figures, and methodological frameworks that have shaped the emergence of maqāṣidī exegesis in Indonesia and to demonstrate how this approach responds to the challenges of modern interpretation. Using a qualitative library research method, the study analyzes classical and contemporary literature, including contributions from Ibn ‘Āshūr, Jasser Auda, and Indonesian scholars such as Abdul Mustaqim. The findings indicate that maqāṣidī interpretation in Indonesia evolved from implicit moral-ethical readings into a more systematic and theoretically grounded method that integrates maqāṣid al-Qur’an and maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah. This approach emphasizes overarching values such as justice, compassion, and public welfare while maintaining coherence with textual evidence. The study concludes that maqāṣidī exegesis offers a balanced interpretive paradigm that accommodates both linguistic analysis and contextual considerations. The implications of this research highlight its contribution to the development of moderate, holistic Qur’anic interpretation relevant to contemporary social issues in Indonesia.
